Bio

Liam Elliot is a Canadian composer and sound artist from Calgary currently living in Princeton, NJ.

His work seeks to create a sense of place and reflects a fascination with the sounds and processes of the natural world. He creates acoustic and electroacoustic pieces for concert performance and builds sound sculptures that directly transform natural processes into musical sound.

Liam is a PhD candidate in composition at Princeton University. He completed a Bachelor of Music in Composition at Acadia University and his MPhil in Music Studies at the University of Cambridge. He has also studied composition privately with Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Richard Rijnvos, John Plant, and Bruce Petherick. His work has been performed across Canada, as well as in the US, the UK, Germany, and Bulgaria.

Projects and Exhibitions

Spacebox: Installed at the APT Gallery, London from May 4-6, 2018. With Sarah McCabe.
Cloud/Mass: Chamber version premiered by members of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) and participants in the Ensemble Evolution program conducted by Steven
Schick at the Banff Centre for the Arts on July 1, 2017.
Winter Music: Released on the album Lucid by India Gailey. Has also been performed in London, Halifax, and at the Banff Centre.
Mer: For string quartet, narrator, and pre-recorded electronics with poetry by Sue Goyette. Has been performed in New York and at the Banff Centre.
Threnody: Film score for a short film by Joe Armstrong.
Grove: Sound sculpture installed in Wolfville, NS from Sept. 2016 to Aug. 2017.
Music Boxes: Sound sculpture installed in Wolfville, NS from Sept. 2016 to Aug. 2017.
